Author's Purpose
Roland Smith
Roland was raised in Portland, Oregon he was five he got a typewriter and he would always use it just to listen to it and look at the crisp mark the typewriter would make on the page. This inspired him to write. He eventually went to college to become a writer. While he was in college he was trying to find a part time job and found an opening at a local children zoo; shortly after he started working two Agoutis (very large rodents from South America) got out of their cage and got loose into the surrounding park he was sent to find them and to his bosses surprise he found them and brought them back. Later he was walking with another employee and a visitor opened up a cage to a myna bird and without thinking he jumped up and grabbed it by the legs and put it back in the cage. After a while of being there and trying to write he left and became a full- time writer. The purpose that Roland Smith had to make this book is because when he was a zookeeper he was friends with a security guard there and they would go to a climbing course and climb for a little while after work everyday.
